Hunger strike the employees of Oil Construction Company (OCC) announced in Aktau, who have been refusing food and demanding the registration of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Kazakhstan, was put to an end by police on January 22, 2016.

В Темиртау судят редакцию газеты «Темиртауский рабочий» по иску коммунального предприятия. Истец считает, что из-за статьи в газете увеличилось количество задолженности потребителей, и предприятию якобы нанесен ущерб деловой репутации. Ответчик опасается, что суд могут быстро завершить не в его пользу.

UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association concerned about situation in Kazakhstan

One of the most pressing issues, the Special Rapporteur said, was the Government’s approach to regulating peaceful assemblies. Although the right is guaranteed by Kazakhstan’s Constitution, all peaceful assemblies must be authorized by local authorities, and even authorized assemblies are limited to specific, government-designated sites.
